Maasim: The amount of damage to infrastructure caused by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Maasim, Sarangani, and nearby provinces on June 8 has climbed to PHP1.36 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, this is significantly higher than the PHP1.29 billion reported on June 17, according to the disaster response body's latest situation update. The NDRRMC said these damages were incurred in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The earthquake damaged a total of 799 infrastructure facilities. Meanwhile, the number of damaged houses in all four regions was placed at 61,119, while 13,691 were destroyed. Casualties being verified remain at 78 deaths, 1,339 injured, and 32 missing, all concentrated in the Davao Region and Soccsksargen. The NDRRMC said these figures are still subject to change due to validation or verification.
