BATU PAHAT, The Johor government will examine the syllabus and subjects in institutions of higher learning (IPT) in the state so that they will be in line with market needs, thereby increasing the marketability of graduates. State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said this is because there are many courses offered, including in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field, which are not parallel and do not meet the needs of the market. Accordingly, he said the state government intends to establish the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) to overcome the issue of loss of 'talent' in the state following the migration of graduates to other states in search of jobs. 'The JTDC aims to ensure that cooperation between the education sector and industry can be done to produce graduates who meet the market requirements in the employment industry,' he said at a press conference after officiating the Kita MADANI Johor Carnival at Dataran Parit Sulong here today. "We do not want the graduates to miss out on getting jobs because the syllabus and learning modules are not the same as what the industry needs in Johor." Aznan said based on records, his team found that many graduates who completed their studies in the state were working overseas or in other states especially in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Regarding the Kita MADANI Carnival, organised by the Johor Information Department, Aznan hopes that the programme can continue by emphasising the exposure of knowledge and unity. "At the same time, we want this programme to revive the 'wayang pacak' (outdoor movie screening) which was once quite synonymous with the Information Department, for the younger generation. "However, wayang pacak needs to be in line with the latest technology apart from adapting to the type of screenings which can attract young people that is through LED screens and so on,' he added.
