La union: The inflation rate in La Union province experienced a notable decline, falling to 0.3 percent in November from 1.1 percent in October.
According to Philippines News Agency, this decrease has been attributed primarily to changes in the food and non-alcoholic beverage sector, which holds a significant 56.4 percent share of the inflation basket. This sector shifted from a -0.2 percent inflation rate in October to -1.4 percent in November.
PSA-La Union chief statistical specialist Danites Te±ido highlighted that the decline in inflation for vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses was significant, with rates dropping from 26.7 percent in October to -1.8 percent in November. Department of Agriculture Ilocos Region project evaluation officer Irene Tactac noted that the increased production of vegetables in November, following early rice harvests, contributed to the reduced inflation rates.
The inflation rate for pig meat saw a slight decrease from 10.8 percent to 10.7 percent, while inflation for other pelagic fish increased from 5.5 percent to 8.7 percent. Poultry meat prices also rose, moving from 5.1 percent to 6.3 percent.
In addition, Te±ido pointed to a significant 41.7 percent reduction in the inflation rate for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel commodities, which decreased from 4.6 percent in October to 2.8 percent in November. Within this group, electricity and liquefied hydrocarbons recorded inflation rates of 15.1 percent and -6.5 percent, respectively.
The health commodity group also played a role in the slowdown, with inflation decreasing from 0.4 percent to 0.2 percent. This was driven by lower inflation rates for medicines, vaccines, and other pharmaceutical preparations, as well as preventive and protective devices.
Clyde Ciddrick Yapit, a lawyer for the Department of Trade and Industry, mentioned that the inflation for basic necessities and key commodities remained stable, owing to a price freeze under Proclamation No. 1077. This proclamation, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in November 2025, declared a State of National Calamity for one year due to the severe impacts of Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan.
