Lanao Sur, PA Mark 8th Anniversary of Liberation of Marawi City

Marawi: The provincial government and the Philippine Army commemorated the eighth year of Marawi City's liberation from the 2017 siege by Daesh-inspired militants under the Maute and Abu Sayyaf terror groups. In a ceremony on Friday, Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. emphasized the journey toward normalcy and rebuilding efforts in Marawi City following the siege that lasted from May 23 to October 23.

According to Philippines News Agency, at the headquarters of the Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade, wreaths were placed at a marker dedicated to the fallen heroes of the five-month siege. The remembrance highlighted the ongoing efforts to restore the community and provide support for displaced families who continue to face challenges in rebuilding their homes.

The Marawi Compensation Board has been active in assessing and releasing compensation to qualified residents whose properties were destroyed during the conflict. These efforts are part of the broader initiative to aid recovery and support those affected by the siege.
