San jose del monte: National team mainstays Alberto Lim Jr. and Eric Jed Olivarez kept their winning forms Thursday to reach the semifinal round of the Gentry National Open Tennis Championships at the Colegio San Agustin hard courts in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
According to Philippines News Agency, the top-seeded Lim, who recently secured his fourth PCA Open title, showcased his prowess by defeating Tanakorn Srirat of Thailand with a score of 6-1, 6-2. This victory has set him up for a semifinal clash against Charles Kinaadman. Kinaadman, ranked No. 9, earned his spot in the semifinals by overcoming two-time PCA Open champion Patrick John Tierro with a 6-1, 7-6 (6) win.
In another quarterfinal match, No. 2 seed Olivarez triumphed over No. 10 Eric Jay Tangub, winning 6-4, 6-1. Olivarez is now set to face unseeded Arthur Craig Pantino, who defeated No. 7 Nilo Ledama with a 6-1, 6-3 scoreline.
Meanwhile, in the women's division, Philippine Tennis Association contenders Tennielle Madis and Stefi Marithe advanced to the semifinals by defeating their respective opponents. No. 6 seed Madis, the newly crowned PCA Open champion, surprised No. 4 Joanna Victoria Pe±a with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Madis will now compete against No. 8 Rachel Patricia Velez, who achieved an upset against No. 1 Mikaela Vicencio, winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
No. 7 Aludo secured a win over No. 3 Elizabeth Abarquez with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 score and will face No. 2 Tiffany Claire Nocos in the semifinals. Nocos advanced after defeating Paula Ysabelle Uy 6-3, 6-3 in their quarterfinal encounter.
The Gentry Open, in association with the Palawan Pawnshop National Tennis Championships, is offering a total of P2 million in cash prizes. The men's singles champion will receive PHP300,000, while the runner-up will take home PHP150,000. The women's singles champion and runner-up will be awarded PHP100,000 and PHP50,000, respectively.
