Polangui: The Department of Agrarian Reform in Bicol (DAR-5) has officially turned over two farm-to-market road (FMR) projects aimed at improving market access and services for farmers and residents across five barangays in Polangui, Albay. These infrastructure developments are set to benefit approximately 7,400 residents, including 473 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).
According to Philippines News Agency, the newly built infrastructure was highlighted by DAR-V Central Office Project Management Service Director Von Mark Mendoza in a recent press release. Mendoza elaborated on the significance of these projects, stating that the main agricultural products from the region include coconuts, corn, sugarcane, and vegetables. The new 2.76-kilometer concrete road will now connect the barangays of Pintor, Kinuartelan, and La Purisima, while an additional 1.5-kilometer FMR will link Lourdes and Lanigay.
Mendoza emphasized that these new routes are crucial for providing farmers with quicker and more efficient access to markets, which in turn reduces travel time and hauling costs. He reaffirmed the agency's dedication to enhancing the welfare of farmers through continued support services such as infrastructure development. He conveyed, 'On behalf of Secretary Conrado Estrella III, we extend our commitment to all agrarian reform beneficiaries that the agency will continue to provide strong support. DAR will always be here to strengthen our support services programs.'
Jose V. Velarde, a beneficiary of the agrarian reform and Barangay Captain of Kinuartelan, expressed his appreciation for the completed roads, noting the positive impact they have made. He stated, 'Now we are saving on transportation costs because our roads are in much better condition. We are truly grateful to President Bongbong Marcos, Secretary Estrella, and everyone in DAR.'
The completion of these FMRs in Polangui marks a significant step in the ongoing infrastructure projects in Albay, aiming to uplift the local agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of its residents.
