Lim Sweeps Philta Men’s Open in Commanding Fashion

Manila: Alberto "AJ" Lim Jr. swept the inaugural Philta Men's Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center Sunday night, reaffirming his position as the country's No. 1 player. Lim defeated second seed Eric Jed Olivarez Jr. with a score of 7-6 (6), 6-1, in the singles final and also triumphed in the doubles title alongside Olivarez against Arthur Craig "Iggy" Pantino and Noel Damian, 6-3, 4-6 (11-9). According to Philippines News Agency, Lim secured PHP350,000 and 1,000 ranking points for his singles victory, while Olivarez earned PHP175,000 and 750 points in this Grand Slam-level event, supported by Tecnifibre and the Philippine Sports Commission. As doubles champions, Lim and Olivarez took home PHP80,000 and 1,000 points, while Pantino and Damian received PHP40,000 and 750 points. Lim expressed gratitude following his victories, stating, "Beyond the win today, I want to thank God, my family, my team, everyone who came to watch. Thank you for the support." This win marks another achievement for Lim, who previo usly bested Olivarez in the finals of the 2026 Philta Men's Masters Top 8 and the 2025 PCA Open. Olivarez, who mounted a strong challenge, acknowledged the journey, stating, "I'm really grateful because I had a lot of tough matches up to the finals." He had earlier defeated 2025 Gentry Open champion Pantino 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and SEA Games mixed doubles bronze medalist Francis Casey Alcantara 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals. Despite the loss, Olivarez remains optimistic, sharing, "It's been a long journey, I'm just grateful to be here. It's not the best of course, I would have wanted to win, but still grateful." Both Lim and Olivarez are part of the team that clinched the bronze medal in the SEA Games last year, alongside Alcantara and Pantino.
