Manila: Local shares declined on Wednesday ahead of the release of the May 2025 inflation data, while the peso moved sideways. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) declined by 0.54 percent to 6,378.56, while All Shares slightly fell by 0.06 percent to 3,768.58.
According to Philippines News Agency, "Philippine investors sold ahead of the May CPI (consumer price index) which is slated for release tomorrow as many are awaiting the final print before making any decisions," Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales Luis Limlingan said. Holding Firms and Services closed in the green, while Financials, Industrial, Mining and Oil, and Property closed in the red. Advancers led decliners at 115 to 78.
Meanwhile, the peso closed at 55.77 to a dollar from its 55.72 finish the previous trading day. It opened at 55.8 and traded between 55.74 and 55.90, bringing the day's average to 55.79. Volume of trade, however, declined to USD1.36 billion from USD1.64 billion.
