Manila: A low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, are set to bring rain to various regions of the Philippines on Tuesday, as reported by the weather bureau.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has identified an LPA near Baggao, Cagayan as of 3 a.m. This system is not expected to evolve into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. Due to the presence of the LPA, areas including the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Additionally, the southwest monsoon will cause similar weather conditions in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras. PAGASA has issued warnings that moderate to heavy rains in these regions could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides.
Other parts of the country will encounter isolated rain showers as a result of localized thunderstorms. Northern and Central Luzon are expected to experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas, while other areas will have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
PAGASA is also monitoring Typhoon Dolphin, which is located 2,330 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon and remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m. The weather bureau has indicated that this cyclone is unlikely to enter PAR within the next 24 hours.
