LPA East of Visayas Likely to Develop Into Cyclone

Manila: The low pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) currently shows a medium potential to evolve into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, as reported by the weather bureau on Monday. The LPA was last observed 950 kilometers east northeast of Eastern Visayas as of 8 a.m. It is expected to develop into a tropical depression, which will be named Dante, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the southwest monsoon is continuing to bring rains across the country. In an advisory released around 1 p.m., PAGASA indicated that heavy rainfall is expected in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro until Tuesday noon. The advisory also highlighted that the water level at La Mesa Dam is approaching its spilling level of 80.15 meters, having reached 79.69 meters as of 8 a.m.

Water discharge from La Mesa Dam could potentially impact low-lying areas along the Tullahan River, including parts of Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subd., Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Valenzuela (North Luzon Expressway, La Huerta Subd.), and Malabon. Residents in these areas, particularly those near riverbanks, are advised to remain alert for possible flooding.
