Iloilo: A new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility constructed by the Isla Group in Leganes, Iloilo, is set to enhance LPG supply security in Panay and the Western Visayas region. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, who inaugurated the LPG plant in Barangay Bigke, described the facility as "a vital milestone for Western Visayas." Garin emphasized the Department of Energy's focus on developing a resilient energy supply chain to meet the needs of Filipino consumers.
According to Philippines News Agency, the facility, built on a 5.4-hectare coastal site, has a storage capacity of 1,400 metric tons of LPG. It is equipped with a truck-filling gantry, an LPG cylinder-filling carousel, a truck weighbridge, and safety systems that meet industry standards. Isla's statement highlighted the inclusion of a deep-water jetty with a depth of 9 meters, capable of accommodating vessels over 12,000 deadweight tons, facilitating LPG transportation across the archipelago.
A submarine pipeline connects the jetty to the onshore facility, ensuring efficient LPG transfer from marine tankers to storage tanks. The plant's storage capacity can supply approximately 125,000 households, with provisions for additional tanks as demand grows. The facility also features a loading gantry and weighbridge for bulk distribution, along with an automated carousel filling system for efficient cylinder filling.
Isla LPG Corp. CEO Tomoaki Asai, Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, Iloilo Rep. Kathryn Gorriceta, Leganes Mayor Junjun Jaen, and other officials attended the inauguration alongside Secretary Garin.
