Quezon city: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to review all 3,972 public utility vehicles (PUVs) with franchises to operate along Commonwealth Ave. to ensure sufficient public transport in the area. In a news release, the Board said franchise holders found to be inactive or not operating will be required to explain through show-cause orders.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III stated that the review is in line with Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez's order to safeguard commuters and ensure PUV franchises are properly utilized. 'Mahigpit naming ipatutupad ang direktiba ng DOTr upang matiyak na nagagamit nang tama ang mga prangkisa (We will strictly enforce the directive from the DOTr to ensure that franchises are being used properly),' Guadiz said.
On Wednesday, Lopez ordered the verification of the almost 4,000 PUVs plying Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City after personally experiencing the commute along the busy thoroughfare. He ordered the LTFRB to study the situation and provide a recommendation that would increase the supply of PUVs along Commonwealth Avenue.
