MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has bolstered its deployment of traffic personnel to manage the anticipated surge of travelers returning to urban areas following the holiday season, as announced by LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza directed all regional directors and heads of LTO offices to ensure the visibility of enforcers on roads, particularly those leading to Metro Manila and other major urban centers. This initiative aims to manage traffic flow and enforce road safety regulations effectively. Mendoza emphasized the importance of maintaining road safety and providing adequate assistance to motorists during this high-traffic period.
The LTO has taken proactive measures to ensure sufficient personnel are stationed on major thoroughfares, with a particular focus on Metro Manila. In addition to personnel deployment, Mendoza has ordered an intensified road safety campaign. This campaign will concentrate on identifying overloaded trucks and vehicles with worn-out tires, which pose significant safety risks.
The agency's efforts have already led to the issuance of show cause orders to over 35 truck owners. These orders were the result of checkpoints conducted during nighttime and early morning hours on regular truck routes throughout Metro Manila and other pertinent areas. Mendoza urged all motorists to cooperate with LTO's safety campaign by adhering to road safety measures and regulations, emphasizing the shared responsibility for safety on the roads.
Mendoza also reminded motorists to conduct thorough vehicle checks and ensure drivers are sober and well-rested before embarking on their journeys. These precautions are vital for ensuring the safety of all road users as the holiday season concludes.
