Manila: The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is currently investigating a fatal road crash involving a Ceres bus that occurred in Silay City, Negros Occidental, on June 1. The incident has prompted the suspension of the bus driver by the operator, Vallacar Transit Inc.
According to Philippines News Agency, the LTO-NIR has stated that the report from Vallacar Transit Inc. will be an integral part of the ongoing investigation. The agency's Intelligence and Investigation Unit (IIU) has received a verified explanation from the company regarding the vehicular accident, which involved one of its buses and resulted in a fatality.
On June 10, personnel from the IIU issued a show-cause order to the management of the bus company at its North Terminal in Bacolod City. The crash occurred when the Ceres bus sideswiped a sedan taxi along the national highway, causing the taxi to collide with an electric bicycle. This chain of events led to the death of a three-year-old female passenger.
In its explanation submitted to the LTO-NIR on June 15, Vallacar Transit Inc. reported that the driver of the bus underwent a drug test, which returned a negative result for the use of illegal substances.
