LTO Urges Motorists in Antique to Observe Traffic Rules Amid Rising Vehicular Crashes

Antique: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has called on motorists in Antique to adhere to traffic regulations in an effort to reduce the number of vehicular crashes. LTO Antique chief Eric Otayde expressed concern over five successive vehicular incidents occurring over the last three weeks.

According to Philippines News Agency, Otayde emphasized the importance of cautious driving and the necessity for motorists to maintain proper lane discipline to prevent accidents. Since Monday, the LTO has deployed personnel along national highways and roads in Antique to ensure compliance with safety measures, such as the use of helmets or seatbelts and the possession of valid driver and vehicle licenses.

Otayde noted the increased efforts to penalize traffic violators, highlighting the LTO's commitment to enforcing regulations. Over the past three days alone, 20 violators were apprehended for issues like unregistered or expired motor vehicle licenses, with fines imposed ranging from PHP8,000 to PHP12,000.

In addition to enforcement measures, the LTO has been conducting defensive driving and vehicle maintenance orientation sessions as part of its outreach program. This initiative aims to encourage motorcycle owners and drivers to secure proper licensing. Otayde mentioned that the LTO is open to requests from local government units to conduct these orientations.
