Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake Jolts Tarlac Province.

Tarlac: A magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted Tarlac province early Thursday morning. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the tremor struck 3 kilometers east of Tarlac City at 5:58 a.m. The earthquake was tectonic in origin, with a depth of 199 kilometers. According to Philippines News Agency, the instrumental intensities recorded varied across different locations. Intensity III was observed in Bani, Pangasinan, while Intensity II was noted in Santa Ignacia and Ramos, Tarlac; Dagupan City; Masinloc and Botolan, Zambales; Olongapo City; Bontoc, Mountain Province; and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Intensity I was recorded in the City of Tarlac and Bamban, Tarlac; Guagua, Pampanga; Abucay and Dinalupihan, Bataan; Urdaneta City, Pangasinan; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Santol, La Union; Bustos, Bulacan; Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; and Navotas City. Instrumental intensity is determined using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration. Phivolcs stated that while aftershocks are likely, no damage is expected from the earthquake.
