Quezon city: Mapua University and Grupong Bedista-San Beda are set to compete for the inaugural U18 crown in the Philippine Youth Basketball Championship (PYBC) Season 2, presented by Growee, on Saturday at the Central Recreation and Fitness Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, the highly anticipated title showdown is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Red Robins are aiming to duplicate their previous 68-60 victory over the Red Cubs, achieved on June 27. Mapua's Tobby Orbista, who was instrumental in their earlier success with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, emphasized that consistency will be crucial in securing another win.
In the semifinal round, San Beda narrowly defeated San Beda Alabang-Spartans Tipuno x BF, clinching a 71-69 victory on July 25, to earn their spot in the final.
Another exciting matchup is set for the U12 Finals at 8 a.m., where Travis Generals will face Converge Super FiberX-Coach T. Miguel Villanueva had an impressive performance, recording 26 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks, leading Converge to a narrow 70-69 victory over Travis Generals on June 14.
In the U16 category, Grupong Bedista-San Beda will compete against Aces Solar x D'Generals at 10 a.m. The Red Cubs will rely on key players Cris Basaya and Julius Rubia, who contributed 22 and 21 points, respectively, in their 79-73 win over Aces Solar on May 30.
The U14 crown title will see Grupong Bedista-San Beda take on Scrillah Kings at 2 p.m. This will mark the first encounter between the two teams, both of which demonstrated dominance by sweeping their six assignments, including quarterfinals and semifinals, to reach the Finals.
