Marcos Concludes US Visit, Heads Back to Manila After Meeting with Trump

Washington d.c.: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has departed Washington D.C. to return to Manila following a significant meeting with United States President Donald Trump. Marcos left at 4:42 p.m. on Tuesday, as reported by the Presidential Communications Office to reporters on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the President's three-day official visit to the US was made at the invitation of Trump. During his stay, Marcos engaged in discussions with key figures including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and officials from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Additionally, he met with business leaders to discuss potential collaborations.

The visit culminated in a meeting with Trump at the Oval Office in the White House, marking a historic moment as Marcos became the first Southeast Asian head of state to meet with the American leader since Trump's second term began in January. The bilateral meeting focused on strengthening trade and defense ties between the two nations.

Marcos is returning to the Philippines as the country faces challenges from the enhanced southwest monsoon, known locally as 'habagat,' which has brought heavy rains, widespread flooding, and class suspensions across much of Luzon and parts of Visayas.
