Marcos Emphasizes Integrity Among Government Workers Amid Corruption Scandal

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. asserted that the government is predominantly made up of honest and hardworking public servants, stressing that corruption is not representative of the nation's bureaucracy. In his latest podcast episode released Tuesday, Marcos discussed his decision to expose the multibillion-peso flood control scam, aiming to demonstrate that the corrupt minority does not overshadow the thousands of dedicated civil servants who dutifully carry out their responsibilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos emphasized the dedication of many government employees who make significant sacrifices in their roles. "I have always said there are so many people in government who are dedicated, who make sacrifices, give everything that they can to their service," he stated. Marcos highlighted the commitment of these workers, noting their willingness to work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, to fulfill tasks beyond their job descriptions.

The President conveyed that despite the misconduct of a few individuals, the majority of government employees remain committed to public service. "You cannot paint everyone in government with the same brush as all of these corrupt operators that you see," Marcos explained. He clarified that corrupt individuals do not represent the government but rather embody corruption itself.

Marcos previously described the flood control fund scandal as one of the most audacious in recent years. In response, he established the Independent Commission for Infrastructure to investigate the alleged irregularities and redirected PHP255.5 billion in flood control funds towards essential social and infrastructure services. He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing accountability without bias, while continuing to support the honest majority who, he affirmed, quietly keep the government operational every day.
