Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday highlighted the 80th anniversary of Philippine-United States diplomatic relations as a pivotal moment to reaffirm and expand the existing bilateral partnership into new strategic areas, emphasizing its ongoing importance for both national and regional security.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos, during the Palace event for the anniversary logo launch, pointed out that the Philippines and the U.S. have enjoyed eight decades of collaboration in various sectors including defense, maritime security, law enforcement, trade, investment, and more. He noted the comprehensive nature of the partnership, which has been built on commitment and sustained effort over the years.

Marcos emphasized that the alliance is now extending into new areas such as cybersecurity and outer space cooperation. He cited his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as a catalyst for renewed momentum in high-level exchanges, underscoring the foundational groundwork that continues to fortify the alliance.

The anniversary logo, created collaboratively by the Philippine Embassy in Washington and the U.S. Embassy in Manila, incorporates elements from both nations' flags, symbolizing the shared values of the two countries over the past eight decades.

Marcos also expressed gratitude to the U.S.-Philippines Society and Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez for their significant contributions in strengthening bilateral ties. He acknowledged Ambassador Babe's role in nurturing the relationship in recent years.

As the current ASEAN chair, Marcos expressed Manila's anticipation for continued support from Washington, D.C. on regional initiatives and conveyed hopes to welcome Trump in Manila for the ASEAN Summit later this year.
