Cagayan: A total of 13,135 individuals were affected by the massive flooding in Cagayan triggered by incessant rains, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said Thursday. In its latest situational report, the PDRRMO indicated that the affected residents were from 50 barangays across nine towns in the province.
According to Philippines News Agency, 2,429 individuals were staying in evacuation centers as of Thursday afternoon, while others have chosen to temporarily stay with neighbors or relatives. In a media interview, Cesar Cuntapay, acting head of the PDRRMO, mentioned that personnel from the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan - Quick Response Team, along with various rescue equipment, are on standby to support municipal disaster response units if required.
In Tuguegarao City, Mayor Maila Ting Que reported that the water level at Buntun Bridge was at a critical level of 11 meters as of 2 p.m. She expressed hope for continued sunny weather to aid in water level reduction. Due to the flooding, the city government suspended its onsite operations by 3 p.m., with exceptions for essential services like the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Health Office, Command Center, and the City Social Welfare and Development Office, which remain on full alert to monitor the situation and provide necessary responses.
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 2 (Cagayan Valley), family food packs valued at PHP513,000 have already been distributed to affected families. Additionally, the DSWD reported that about PHP115.9 million worth of relief resources are available for further assistance.
