Makati: The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has unveiled its comprehensive 'Building a Better Mindanao' (BBM) roadmap, a 2025-2028 initiative aimed at sustaining the region's peace-driven growth. During a briefing in Makati City, MinDA Chairperson, Secretary Leo Tereso Magno, emphasized the shift from conflict to stability in Mindanao, allowing the government to focus on accelerating prosperity.
According to Philippines News Agency, Magno highlighted the importance of correcting outdated perceptions about Mindanao to ensure sustained progress. He noted the significance of aligning peace with development, stating that the region is now entering a phase of thriving, with communities hoping that ongoing initiatives will continue to flourish.
The agency pointed out strong indicators of Mindanao's progress, such as the shift from power deficits to energy exportation, supplying 400 megawatts daily to the Visayas grid and 200 megawatts to the Luzon grid. Additionally, the region's economic growth in areas like Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Caraga, alongside its role as the country's food basket, underscores the necessity of an integrated development framework.
The BBM Program, anchored on the President's 10-Point Agenda, aims to consolidate national and regional priorities, reflecting the aspirations of over 26 million Mindanawons. Under this roadmap, two tracks of operation will be pursued: multi-agency enrolled targets and MinDA-implemented flagship programs.
The first track focuses on aligning flagship projects with national mandates while catering to Mindanao's specific development needs. MinDA will collaborate with national agencies to prioritize projects that can be implemented within the current administration's term. The second track comprises various initiatives such as the Mindanao Disaster Resiliency Resource Center, Tubig Para sa Lahat, Mindanao Development Corridors (MinDC), MindaNOW watershed management, Empower community enterprise initiative, Accelerating Investments in Mindanao (AIM), Sustainable Energy Transition (SET), and Venture Into a Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism (VISIT) program.
These programs aim to enhance water supply, safeguard water resources, support cleaner energy systems, promote inclusive tourism, improve logistics and infrastructure, and facilitate job creation and investment. Magno emphasized that these efforts represent a cohesive strategy to translate peace into lasting development, ensuring that Mindanao's resurgence is inclusive, resilient, and sustained.
