More than 4K Police, Force Multipliers to Secure Undas in W. Visayas

Iloilo city: Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) Director, Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, on Friday inspected several ports, terminals, and cemeteries and expressed satisfaction with the security preparations ahead of All Saints' and All Souls' Days.

According to Philippines News Agency, among the places he inspected were the Parola wharf, the Ceres terminals in Arevalo and Jaro Districts, and several public and private cemeteries in Iloilo City, as well as the roll-on roll-off port in the municipality of Dumangas. He noted the organized flow of passengers in ports and terminals, as well as the presence of security personnel and force multipliers in their respective posts. "That is the result of a very long coordination, close collaboration with our LGU (local government unit)," he said in a media interview.

He stated that almost 4,000 law enforcers and force multipliers, including 2,756 organic members of the Philippine National Police, will secure the region. During the inspection, he reminded police officers to follow the guidelines set by the LGUs in the observance of Undas. He also advised them to ensure the smooth flow of people in and out of cemeteries, assist in parking, and prevent illegal activities, such as illegal drug use, in places of convergence.

Ligan led the distribution of safety flyers to passengers at the terminals and urged the public to remain alert during Undas. "At the same time, they have to be aware of their environment while traveling," he said.

On Thursday, Ligan distributed 20 drones to various provincial police offices for use during Undas and future large events. "This Undas, they will be deployed (to) convergence areas, like churches and cemeteries, so we can see the crowd and for aerial coverage. It's good that we have an eye in the sky. We will use all the available technological advancement for the discharge of our duties and responsibilities being frontliners," he stated.
