More Than 5 Million People Impacted by Severe Weather in the Philippines

Manila: The number of individuals affected by the combined impact of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, along with the ongoing southwest monsoon in the Philippines, has surged to approximately 5.08 million across 10 regions, as reported by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

According to Nam News Network, the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) information officer Diego Mariano stated that the affected population corresponds to about 1.45 million families. These families are from various regions including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, and Mimaropa.

Currently, around 523 evacuation centers are providing shelter to approximately 7,182 families or 24,893 individuals. Assistance provided so far amounts to roughly PHP734.1 million (RM48.6 million).

The verified death toll stands at 23, with 15 fatalities in Benguet, three each in Rizal and Batangas, and one each in La Union and Quezon. Additionally, 17 individuals sustained injuries, and one person remains missing.

The severe weather has also resulted in significant property damage, with a total of 182 houses completely destroyed and 1,681 others experiencing partial damage.
