NDRRMC Activates Blue Alert for Tropical Depression Isang

Manila: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has placed its operations center under a blue alert to monitor the potential impact of Tropical Depression Isang. This alert status was raised at noon, as mentioned in a Facebook post by the disaster response agency.

According to Philippines News Agency, the activation of the blue alert aims to ensure that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) is prepared to closely monitor and coordinate with relevant agencies and offices. The blue alert is set in anticipation of a slow onset disaster or a potential escalation in the situation, necessitating the presence of selected duty personnel.

Key personnel from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) lead the operations, supported by detailed duty officers (DDOs) who are deployed at the NDRRMOC. These DDOs generally include uniformed personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine National Police.

Additionally, the team is strengthened by technical staff from various departments such as the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service (DOST-PAGASA), Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Health.

In an update provided at 11 a.m., PAGASA reported that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over 17 areas due to Isang, which made landfall over Casiguran, Aurora. Isang is reported to have maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, with gusts reaching up to 90 kph.
