NDRRMC Reports 17 Dead and Over Half a Million Affected by Typhoon Inday and Southwest Monsoon

Manila: Seventeen people were reported dead while around 514,700 individuals were affected by the southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by Typhoon Inday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the deaths were caused by drowning and landslide, with two recorded in Bukidnon; 10 in Malapatan, Sarangani; and five in Calanogas, Lanao Del Sur. Additionally, four individuals sustained injuries due to landslides in Torrijos, Marinduque; Malapatan; and Calanogas.

The report further mentioned that nine individuals are reported missing, with three from Malapatan and six from Calanogas. As of the latest updates, 14,000 families have been displaced, with 2,900 currently residing in evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC stated that PHP16.41 million worth of assistance has been provided to the affected families. Typhoon Inday exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. Despite the typhoon's exit, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan as of the 11 a.m. advisory.
