Manila: The number of reported deaths from the combined effects of Severe Tropical Storm Crising, internationally known as Wipha, and the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally referred to as 'habagat', has risen to six, as confirmed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
According to Philippines News Agency, of the six fatalities, two have been confirmed while four are still being verified. The NDRRMC's latest situation report identifies the confirmed deaths as occurring in Northern Mindanao and the Caraga Region. The cases undergoing validation include two from Northern Mindanao and one each from Mimaropa and the Davao Region.
The report also highlights that these weather disturbances have affected 362,465 families, translating to 1,266,322 individuals across 2,088 barangays in 17 regions of the country. Currently, 4,991 families, or 17,116 persons, are receiving aid in 277 evacuation centers, while an additional 14,524 families, or 65,219 individuals, are being supported outside of these centers.
The Office of Civil Defense defines affected families as those who are displaced, as well as those who do not require relocation from their residences. The weather disturbances have partially damaged 1,153 houses and totally damaged 348 houses.
The estimated damage to infrastructure stands at PHP413.02 million, while agricultural damage is estimated at PHP54.06 million.
