Legazpi city: Albay Governor Noel Rosal, the newly appointed chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Bicol, has announced plans to prioritize infrastructure and connectivity projects aimed at boosting the economic growth of the region during his three-year tenure.
According to Philippines News Agency, Rosal, who was recently appointed to the RDC position by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., has identified 30 flagship projects. These include upgrading the Bicol International Airport, improving major seaports such as Matnog and Pantao, and enhancing railway systems to strengthen connectivity with the Visayas and Mindanao regions, thereby positively impacting the local economy.
Rosal emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, stating, "I believe this will address our reputation as the poorest region. With improved connectivity to Visayas and Mindanao, our goods will circulate more easily within Bicol," during an interview on Monday.
To facilitate a smooth transition from planning to execution, Rosal highlighted the necessity of coordination among local chief executives and government agencies. "We need the cooperation of local chief executives, and I am requesting that. It's crucial for government agencies to engage in coordination meetings so that we can implement meaningful programs that truly address our needs," he elaborated.
Despite the region's susceptibility to typhoons, Rosal asserted that development projects should not be deterred. He has called for meetings of sectoral committees to further assess the urgent needs of Bicolanos, particularly in addressing power supply and water resource issues, which remain significant challenges.
"These are critical issues that we must prepare for, regardless of where we are in Bicol," he remarked, ensuring all government stakeholders that their inputs would be considered, highlighting a commitment to inclusivity. "All the programs you submit will be reviewed, and we will prioritize them accordingly," Rosal assured.
