New US Ambassador Promises to Elevate PH-US Relations

Makati city: The Philippines can anticipate a stronger engagement with the United States as the newly appointed US Ambassador, Lee Lipton, promises to enhance the alliance between the two nations in the coming years. This announcement was made during Lipton's first official public engagement, which coincided with the celebration of the US Independence Day and the 80th anniversary of Philippine-US relations in Makati City.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ambassador Lipton, appointed by President Trump, expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing his commitment to elevating the partnership between the United States and the Philippines. He highlighted plans by the Trump administration to increase American business, jobs, investments, and assistance in the Philippines as the two countries commemorate eight decades of diplomatic ties in 2026.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Leo Herrera-Lim also expressed optimism about the future of the bilateral relations. He mentioned Manila's eagerness to collaborate with Lipton and the US Embassy to strengthen security, economic, and people-to-people connections. Herrera-Lim remarked that anniversaries are merely markers on the path to a partnership with promising chapters ahead.

The formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States were established on July 4, 1946. In a recent meeting with Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Ambassador Lipton reiterated the US commitment to its alliance with the Philippines and expressed his desire to work closely with the Philippine government. The US Embassy in Manila affirmed Lipton's intention to build on the strong partnership between the two nations.
