Manila: The overall transmission rate for the July 2026 billing period has increased by 0.77 percent to PHP1.4604 per kilowatt hour (kWh), primarily due to higher ancillary services (AS) rates recorded last June. This information was disclosed during a recent briefing by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
According to Philippines News Agency, Julius Ryan Datingaling, NGCP's Revenue Management head, stated that AS providers billed increased rates last month, compared to May's PHP1.4492/kWh. Datingaling clarified that NGCP does not gain from these rate increases, as AS rates are pass-through power expenses covering the supply from power generators who are AS providers. Despite the rise in AS rates, the transmission wheeling rate, which is the fee for delivering power through the power grid, decreased to PHP0.5058/kWh from May's PHP0.5607/kWh.
In terms of grid status, the transmission grid in the Visayas is under normal conditions after the Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) resumed operations. However, NGCP remains cautious as generating units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) are still unavailable. NGCP spokesperson Lawyer Cynthia Alabanza expressed concerns about the stability of these units, noting that while operations have normalized, there remains a possibility of instability. The TVI units are expected to be back online by August.
