NGCP: Transmission Services Restored in Parts of Mindanao After Quake

Manila: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the successful restoration of transmission services in several areas of Mindanao following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck the region. As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, services in Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental have been reinstated.

According to Philippines News Agency, while efforts have been successful in some areas, transmission lines in parts of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sarangani, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat continue to experience disruptions. The NGCP has assured the public that power transmission in the Northeastern, Northwestern, North Central, and Lanao areas remains stable despite the quake's impact.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has taken proactive measures in response to the earthquake. Task Force on Energy Resiliency, under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., is currently assessing critical facilities in the affected regions. The DOE advisory highlighted that the task force is actively compiling reports concerning the status of power lines, substations, distribution facilities, fuel depots, retail stations, and other energy infrastructures to ascertain any potential damage.

Continuous monitoring is being conducted to ensure that the supply of electricity and petroleum products remains uninterrupted in the communities impacted by the earthquake. The Department emphasized its ongoing collaboration with local energy stakeholders to enable swift response measures in case any damage to energy infrastructure is confirmed.
