No Tourists Hurt, Stranded in Siargao After Powerful Quake

Manila: The Department of Tourism (DOT) said no tourists were injured or reported stranded following the powerful magnitude 6.0 earthquake off General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte on Friday morning. Tourism activities in General Luna and Del Carmen were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.

According to Philippines News Agency, these activities include surfing at Cloud 9 and island-hopping tours covering Guyam, Daku, and Naked Islands, as well as water-based activities in Sugba Lagoon. The DOT confirmed that no injuries or stranded tourists have been reported so far. An assessment of affected tourism workers, including boatmen, surf instructors, tour operators, accommodation staff, and other service providers, is ongoing.

The Sayak Airport in Del Carmen and Dapa Sea Port remain fully operational, with no flight cancellations or diversions reported. The DOT has advised tourists to stay vigilant for aftershocks, follow local authorities' instructions, and avoid entering damaged or restricted areas.

The tremor occurred at 7:03 a.m. with aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1.2 to magnitude 4.4 as of 8:07 p.m.
