Northern mindanao: The Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) is intensifying its border control measures with the implementation of stringent checkpoints to combat smuggling activities in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-10 chief Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano emphasized the ongoing challenge posed by contraband entering the region, particularly smuggled cigarettes. "We will not allow Northern Mindanao to become a transit point or marketplace for illegal contraband," Abrahano stated, highlighting the need for robust enforcement efforts.
In response, Abrahano has directed field units to establish checkpoints at strategic border locations that are commonly used as shortcuts by smugglers. This move aims to intercept and prevent the flow of illegal goods into the region. As part of these efforts, an operation conducted on Monday between Lanao del Norte province and Iligan City led to the seizure of smuggled cigarettes valued at PHP1.2 million.
