Manila: As part of its efforts to build up its disaster response capabilities, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) announced that it is looking to partner with the Israeli government in the field of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats as this covers a range of hazards that can significantly affect public health and safety.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno highlighted Israel's leadership in disaster management and innovation. The discussions between the two parties aim to open avenues for collaboration that could enhance disaster response capabilities, particularly in the context of natural calamities and potential CBRN threats.

During a courtesy call at the OCD, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss emphasized Israel's disaster management capabilities and its readiness to assist the Philippines during calamities. The discussions included sharing insights on Israel's comprehensive approach to managing man-made disasters, which could offer valuable lessons for the Philippines.

The two parties explored opportunities for capacity building, including demonstrations of advanced Israeli products and technologies. They also recognized the need for technological assistance in areas such as food and water purification and smart city solutions aimed at improving urban resilience.
