Antique: Over 1,206 families, translating to 3,782 individuals, have been impacted by the southwest monsoon intensified by Typhoon Inday, as reported by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) on Friday. PSWDO social worker Jason Alagos stated that 159 families, comprising 469 individuals, are currently residing in evacuation centers. The remaining affected families have sought refuge with relatives and friends.
According to Philippines News Agency, the evacuees have been displaced from the municipalities of Tobias Fornier, Anini-y, Barbaza, and Culasi. The PSWDO has documented 17 houses that suffered damage, with one house completely destroyed and 16 sustaining partial damage.
In a separate interview, Prechie Alavatas from the Barbaza Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) revealed that preemptive evacuations commenced on July 8 for residents residing near the Dalanas River due to anticipated flooding. She explained that the local government took these precautionary measures in response to the heavy rainfall that could potentially cause the river to overflow.
Alavatas further reported that 60 families, or 219 individuals, remain in evacuation centers in Barbaza. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed 690 family food packs to the evacuees and other displaced families. In collaboration with the DSWD, the MSWDO is preparing additional food packs and continues to offer psychosocial support to those affected. The local government is also providing hot meals to the displaced residents.
