Dumaguete: Over 1,000 local and overseas job positions were made available during the government-sponsored Independence Day job fair held in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. The event resulted in the immediate hiring of 17 applicants, including four for overseas roles.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ma. Socorro Mira, head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Dumaguete, reported that the job fair featured participation from 13 local companies and five overseas manning agencies. The positions offered were primarily in the service and food industries, including hotels, restaurants, and business process outsourcing sectors.
Raizza Phoebe Rubia, a public information officer with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the province, shared that by 4 p.m., eight jobseekers had secured positions-four for local jobs and another four for overseas employment. Among those successfully hired was Ardel Trinidad from Sta. Catalina town, who expressed gratitude for being quickly employed as a barista by an overseas company.
This job fair marks the second collaboration this year between DOLE, PESO, and the city government, following a similar event on May 1, coinciding with Labor Day. Mira noted a significant turnout of fresh graduates and soon-to-be graduates from various colleges and universities in Dumaguete seeking employment opportunities.
