Over 2,000 Davao PUV Drivers Receive PHP12.3 Million Cash Relief Aid

Davao: A total of 2,469 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers have received over PHP12.3 million in cash relief assistance during a distribution event held from April 28 to 30, as reported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11).

According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution data showed that 809 drivers received their aid on April 28, followed by 836 on April 29, and 824 on April 30. The cash payout is set to resume from May 5 to 7. The initiative aims to reach a total of 6,329 PUV drivers, including those driving jeepneys, taxis, buses, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), and service delivery vehicles.

Records reveal that 531 identified beneficiaries have yet to claim their assistance, leaving a remaining balance of PHP2.6 million. Each qualified driver is eligible to receive PHP5,000 under the DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. This national initiative is designed to support vulnerable transport workers affected by fuel price hikes due to conflicts in the Middle East.

To qualify for the assistance, drivers are required to present a valid permit and a professional driver's license. These documents must be submitted as an original copy along with a photocopy bearing three specimen signatures during the payout process, according to a statement from DSWD-11.

The cash relief provided under the AICS program serves a critical role in helping PUV drivers meet their families' basic needs amid the increasing operational costs they face.
