Manila: Over 5,000 public school teachers will be promoted following the approval of their reclassification applications, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced. This development comes as a result of efforts coordinated with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directives to enhance teachers' welfare and professional growth.
According to Philippines News Agency, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the significance of the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) initiative, which is part of the administration's ongoing commitment to improving career advancement for public school teachers across the country. Angara stated that the administration is expediting the ECP system to prevent teachers from retiring at the entry-level rank of Teacher I.
The DepEd has set an ambitious goal for 2026, aiming to promote more than 100,000 public school teachers under the ECP program. Angara highlighted that this effort goes beyond mere numbers, representing a continuous endeavor to ensure educators receive deserved recognition.
For 2026, the DepEd has secured a substantial PHP6.1 billion allocation. This funding is intended to boost the morale of teachers and administrators, ultimately enhancing the educational outcomes for Filipino students. In addition to focusing on teachers' career progression, the DepEd is also implementing reforms to improve leadership in public schools.
Currently, the DepEd is awaiting the DBM's final review and approval of 914 candidates for reclassification among School Principal items. These positions include Head Teachers, Assistant School Principals, and Teachers-in-Charge.
