Manila: The construction and development of the PHP100-million Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism project in Dinagat Islands is set to commence following a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed on Wednesday between the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and the Dinagat Islands provincial government. Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. and TIEZA chief operating officer Mark Lapid formalized the agreement in Manila.

According to Philippines News Agency, Governor Demerey expressed that the Gaas Inlet Eco-Tourism development will enhance the province's reputation as an emerging eco-tourism destination in the region. The project will feature the construction of a boardwalk and related structures leading to watersports areas in Gaas Inlet, specifically in Barangay Llamera of Libjo town.

The MOA outlines that TIEZA will oversee the project through a public bidding in compliance with Republic Act No. 12009, known as the New Government Procurement Act. Once completed, the project will be handed over to the Dinagat Islands provincial government for maintenance, management, and administration.

Governor Demerey highlighted the project's potential to generate employment during its construction phase and create sustainable livelihood opportunities upon its completion. He noted that the project is expected to attract eco-conscious travelers, stimulate local businesses, and provide long-term benefits to communities by linking environmental protection with economic growth. Demerey expressed gratitude to TIEZA for its partnership and commitment to the project.
