P155-M Presidential Aid Set to Support 67K Farmers in Negros Oriental

Negros oriental: The Department of Agriculture-Provincial Agriculture Technical Coordinating Agency (DA-PATCO) in Negros Oriental has allocated over PHP155 million to assist 66,794 farmers in the province, an official announced. Dana Sampilo, the focal person of the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program (PAFFP), stated that the rollout of the aid commenced last month, and approximately 80 percent of the target beneficiaries have already been reached.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dana Sampilo reported during a forum that as of May 22, cash assistance has been distributed to 50,901 farmers, which include small-scale rice, corn, and sugar farmers. Records from DA-PATCO indicate that 17 local government units in Negros Oriental have received aid, with eight more scheduled to receive assistance in the coming days.

DA-PATCO chief Bernard Limbaga clarified that each beneficiary is entitled to PHP2,325, and they are free to utilize the cash assistance as they see fit. The PAFFP initiative aims to alleviate the challenges faced by vulnerable sectors due to the Middle East crisis, which has led to increased prices for fuel, fertilizers, and other essential commodities.

In addition to the cash assistance, the DA-PATCO is providing free seeds and fertilizers to farmers to help them navigate these difficult times.
