Mabini: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of the PHP96.5-million flood mitigation structure along Balingcaguing River (Calzada Section) in Barangay Calzada, Mabini town, in Pangasinan province.
According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH-Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza stated that the project falls under the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG), aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps. She highlighted that the flood mitigation structure, which measures 259 meters long and 17 meters wide, is designed to protect nearby communities and residential areas from potential flooding.
Tinaza noted that the project was completed in less than a year after it was initiated in 2024, with funding sourced from the Regular Infrastructure Program. "With the completion of this flood mitigation structure, we are taking a significant step forward in protecting the residents and public infrastructure in Barangay Calzada. This project is a testament to our continuous commitment to providing sustainable and disaster-resilient infrastructure," she said.
The initiative is part of the DPWH's broader efforts to mitigate flooding in vulnerable areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities across Pangasinan, the statement read.
