Manila: The rainfall in parts of the country, mostly in Luzon, for the past four days is still not enough to raise the water level of Angat Dam, a hydrologist said. As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, the dam's water level measured 150.85 meters, slightly lower than 150.91 meters the previous day. Angat Dam's normal water level is 210 meters.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview, Rosalie Pagulayan, a hydrologist from the weather bureau, said that 'although the decline is not huge, this becomes significant when added up together.' On average, Angat Dam's level has been decreasing by 0.3 meters per day since July 1, Pagulayan said. "There were days that the decrease were 0.6 meters and 0.42 meters, but on average, it's around 0.3 meters," she said.

Amidst the rains caused by several weather systems, Pagulayan noted 'these were light and moderate rains and did not raise the dam's water level.' Currently, a low pressure area and the easterlies are causing rains in most of Luzon, and Pagulayan said localized thunderstorms are highly likely, particularly in Metro Manila. "Based on weather predictions, only light rains would go within the watershed of Angat," Pagulayan said, urging the public to conserve water. "Avoid wasting it even if you're not yet experiencing water interruption," she added, while also recommending rainwater harvesting.
