PAGASA Warns of Dangerous Heat Index Levels in 44 Areas

Manila: Forty-four areas in the country will experience sweltering temperatures due to a danger-level heat index, the weather bureau said Saturday. Heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity combines with air. According to Philippines News Agency, a peak heat index of 44°C is forecast in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Camiling, Tarlac; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Dumangas, Iloilo; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The following areas will also see danger-level heat indices: NAIA, Pasay City at 43°C, Science Garden, Quezon City at 42°C, and several other locations including Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; and Baler, Aurora, all forecast to experience 42°C. Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely under danger-level heat indices ranging from 42°C to 51°C. Meanwhile, the h eat index may reach 41°C in several areas including Aparri, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; and Casiguran, Aurora. A heat index of 40°C is forecast over DMMMSU Bacnotan, La Union; and CMU Agromet, Musuan, Bukidnon. In addition to the heat warnings, the low-pressure area, formerly known as Caloy, was estimated at 980 km east of Central Luzon. Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Frontal System affecting extreme Northern Luzon. The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas, while the rest of the archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
