Cloud-Seeding Operations Considered as Angat Dam Water Levels Decline

Manila: The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) is considering a possible cloud-seeding operation over the Angat Watershed due to the decreasing water levels at Angat Dam.

According to Philippines News Agency, the dam, which serves as the primary source of potable water for Metro Manila, is gradually falling below its minimum operating level of 180 meters. Recent data from Bulacan's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office indicated that the water elevation at Angat Dam has dropped to 178.55 meters, which is 1.45 meters below the minimum operating level.

To address the declining water levels at Angat Dam, NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David Jr. mentioned in a text message that the board is currently in discussions with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to assess the feasibility of conducting cloud-seeding operations over the Angat Watershed. David also noted that the decreasing water levels at Angat Dam are likely to be further impacted by the anticipated El Ni±o weather phenomenon.
