Pangasinan: The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a heavy rainfall outlook for Pangasinan, La Union, and Zambales as the southwest monsoon or "habagat", intensified by Tropical Depression (TD) Ester, is expected to bring 100 to 200 millimeters (mm) of rain from Friday until Saturday noon.
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA Weather Advisory No. 26 forecasts rainfall of 50 to 100 mm from Saturday noon to Sunday noon. "Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall. The public disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property," PAGASA stated.
Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office emergency operations head Pia Flores noted that TD Ester entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility earlier Friday morning, enhancing the southwest monsoon and bringing rains to the western part of the country. "The local disaster risk reduction and management offices and council members will be alerted to maintain the safety of those in high-risk areas because flash floods, landslides, and flooding are possible," Flores said.
She added that a council meeting will be conducted this afternoon in preparation for the opening of classes on June 8.
