Bangkok: Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Friday debunked a Thai article that claimed that its "former pilot" became homeless on the streets of Bangkok.

According to Philippines News Agency, a Thai PBS World article claimed that a "former PAL and AirAsia pilot" lost all his savings, divorced his wife, and became homeless, and was later rescued by a foundation, which took him to a hospital to be treated for his diabetes. The article, which was shared on the Thai PBS World social media platform, has become viral.

PAL, in a statement, said the article incorrectly identifies an individual named Larry Malpaya as a former pilot of the flag carrier. "The information is false. Capt. Larry Malpaya is an active Philippine Airlines pilot and is not the individual referred to or depicted in the article," it said.

The airline said it has formally requested Thai PBS World to immediately correct the article and all related social media posts to prevent the further spread of false information. "We remain committed to protecting the reputation and welfare of our employees and ensuring that accurate information is shared with the public," PAL said, adding that it values responsible journalism and appreciates the prompt correction of factual inaccuracies.
