Manila: Malaca±ang on Thursday urged relevant government agencies to investigate alleged threats against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. by members of the Duterte family. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized the importance of ensuring the President's safety.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro addressed reporters, stressing the obligation of responsible agencies to provide necessary protection for the President. She highlighted that the investigation into the threats is crucial due to the potential risk to the President's life. Castro stated, "This should not be treated as a joke or something that the concerned agencies can simply dismiss. We are talking about the life of the President here."

President Marcos is reportedly aware of the threats against him, and the government is taking the issue seriously. Security and law enforcement agencies are expected to assess the situation and take appropriate action. Castro reiterated the need for enhanced protection measures, saying, "If greater or more stringent protection is needed for the President because of the threats we are seeing and hearing, then that should be given."

The alleged threats were made by Davao City Mayor Sebastian 'Baste' Duterte during the launch of his Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability Coalition in San Juan City. Duterte remarked that he "only need(s) one head," referring to President Marcos, while criticizing him for alleged corruption and historical grievances. Furthermore, during a virtual press conference in November 2024, Vice President Sara Duterte reportedly echoed a similar threat, stating she had contracted someone to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez if she were harmed.
