Manila: Malaca±ang on Friday emphasized the importance of a thorough review before passing the anti-political dynasty bill, stating that rushing the process would be merely for optics.

According to Philippines News Agency, the statement was made in response to allegations that the failure to certify the bill as urgent was a matter of optics. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified during a press briefing that the request to study the bill carefully is not for show, but to ensure the creation of a well-crafted law. Castro questioned the criticism by asking if the intention behind the request was merely for optics, underscoring the need for a comprehensive law that should not be rushed.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed Congress to prioritize the anti-political dynasty bill, along with three other measures, to foster transparency, accountability, and fair governance. Castro reiterated the necessity of addressing potential loopholes in the bill before its passage, highlighting that a hastily crafted law would lack completeness and serve only as a superficial measure.

The anti-dynasty bill aims to prevent individuals from running for or holding public office if they are related up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity to an incumbent official at either the national or local level.
