Ilocos norte: The Philippine Statistics Authority in Ilocos Norte has finalized the turnover of the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) results to the provincial government of Ilocos Norte on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the turnover was marked by a simple program at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall, where Renz Sanchez, the officer-in-charge and chief statistical specialist of Ilocos Norte, emphasized the importance of the baseline data. This data is expected to serve as a foundation for planning local government units' (LGUs) programs, aimed at addressing the specific needs of their constituents.

An extensive information campaign was previously launched at Northwestern University to highlight the results. This initiative aimed to educate local planners and decision-makers on utilizing CBMS data to create more targeted and impactful programs and policies.

Renz Sanchez noted that the diligent efforts of the LGUs and the PSA culminated in the completion of turnover ceremonies for data from the 23 LGUs in the province. He highlighted that Ilocos Norte's participation in the CBMS began in 2022, under Republic Act 11315, also known as the CBMS Act.

The CBMS allows local governments to gather current, accurate household socio-economic data, providing leaders with reliable information for evidence-based policies and programs. Sanchez pointed out that this local information is crucial for identifying the most vulnerable populations, designing programs that address specific needs, and monitoring the progress of development goals with precision.

He urged LGUs to optimize the utilization of this data for the welfare of the people, focusing on building sustainable communities and changing lives. The LGUs in the province have also expressed their gratitude to the PSA, emphasizing the CBMS's critical role in shaping programs and projects that directly address the needs of the population.
