Manila: Vice President Sara Duterte's declining trust and performance ratings reflect her failure to contribute to addressing the country's pressing concerns, Malaca±ang said Monday following the release of a non-commissioned OCTA Research survey.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro remarked after the 'Tugon ng Masa' survey showed Duterte's performance and trust ratings both slipping below the majority level for the first time since November 2024. Castro emphasized the need for Filipinos to discern who is genuinely working versus those who merely engage in destructive criticism.
'Dapat makita talaga ng mga Filipino kung sino ang tunay nagtatrabaho at kung sino ang walang ginagawa kundi manira lang (Filipinos really need to see who is truly working and who is doing nothing but tearing others down),' Castro said. She further explained that the decline in Duterte's ratings is a reflection of her lack of contribution to government efforts in solving issues related to inflation and rising fuel prices, accusing her of focusing solely on mudslinging without providing solutions.
The survey, conducted from July 4 to 11 and released Monday just hours before Marcos' penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA), showed Duterte's performance rating declining to 45 percent from 50 percent in March, while her trust rating fell to 47 percent from 55 percent. This survey period coincided with the opening of Duterte's impeachment trial before the Senate on July 6, where she faces complaints including her alleged misuse of public funds and her "kill" threat to President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez.
The President also registered lower ratings in the survey, with his performance rating declining from 55 percent to 47 percent and his trust rating easing from 54 percent to 49 percent. However, the Palace made no comment on Marcos' numbers, maintaining their past stance that the administration neither celebrates nor worries about survey numbers, emphasizing that delivering government services remains the President's priority.
